PhD Program

2019-12-20Editor: Source:

Duration

PhD 4 years (maximum   6 years)

MSc-PhD 5 years   (maximum 7 years)

Early Graduation

In principle,   students cannot graduate early. But for those who are particularly   outstanding, it can be up to one to six months in advance. In addition to completing   the courses prescribed by the training program, graduates who have graduated   in advance must have more than one SCI / CSSCI thesis published and must be   approved by the degree committee. All the research results obtained require   the graduate student to be the first author, and the author unit must be   Shandong University.

Cutting-edge Lectures

5 points for PhD, 6 points   for MSc-PhD

Two forms of "cutting-edge   lectures":

1. Make a special report (no   less than 1,000 words’ lecture script required). The content of the lecture   should be substantial, have personal opinions, be able to reflect the new   developments in the research area, and be prepared to accept relevant   questions.

2. Attend lectures and reports   made by domestic and international experts who have made outstanding   achievements in this discipline or related disciplines.

The cutting-edge lectures   could involve different types such as teaching, discussion and communication.

The number of students   participating in cutting-edge lectures must not be less than 15 times, of   which give the lecture no less than 5 times.

Jointly assess by the   supervisor and other teachers participating in the lecture.

Before the end of the   seventh semester, use the new version of the "Forefront Lecture   Assessment Form" to submit the results to the Graduate Education Office.   The assessment results of cutting-edge lectures are recorded as   "Passed" and "Failed".

Seminar

1 point

Seminars are set up in the   direction of research or research group. The seminars are held on a regular   basis, and each session has a clear theme, requiring students to fully   participate in the discussion and start academic debate. The seminar is a   form of study with a high degree of research intensity. It aims to develop critical   thinking, stimulate innovation, and develop the ability of students to   independently engage in scientific research through direct communication and   collision of ideas among participants.

Students should attend   seminars at least every two weeks since the second semester. Each seminar   should have a complete record.

Mid-term Assessment

Time:

PhD: the end of the third semester (November)

MSc-PhD: the first semester of PhD (November)

Assessment result:   According to the results of the "Administrative Regulations for the Interim   Assessment of PhD Graduate Students of Shandong University", the results   of the mid-term assessment of doctoral students are divided into four levels:   excellent, qualified, suspending, and terminated. The mid-term evaluation of   doctoral students is conducted once a year. All PhD students must participate   in the first mid-term assessment, or the result will be recorded as   suspending. The students who receive suspending can take up to one more   mid-term assessment within 4 years. And students who still receive suspending   the result of the second interim assessment should stop PhD study. The   percentage of students who receive excellent of mid-term assessment should   not be higher than 20% of the assessment base, and the proportion of suspending   and terminated of doctoral studies is not less than 15%. The assessment base   consists of the number of people who participated in the assessment for the   first time and the number of people who got suspending the previous year.

MSc-PhD program

The PhD qualification assessment   will be conducted in the third semester.

Students who pass the   assessment could shift the master program to MSc-PhD program.

Dissertation

Over 20,000 words

Thesis presentation and   defense

Peer review

Articles

For graduation, two   academic papers should be published in the SCI or high-level CSSCI source   journals

OR

one paper in the SCI source   journal and high-level CSSCI journals (but the published papers must be   reviewed and approved by the degree subcommittee)

OR

one academic paper published   in the source journals of the second districts and above.

The student should be first   author, and the first author unit should be "Shandong University".

For authors do not list in   alphabetical order, each article is only valid for one PhD student, and it requires   the tutor and the college to sign and seal for confirmation.
