Research Centre for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences Centre


    Research Centre for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (MIS) of Shandong University was founded on November 10th, 2018. It is an independent research institution under Shandong University. The centre is located in Shandong University Qingdao campus which is built in Aoshan Bay, along the coastline of the Yellow Sea and neighboring the northern foot of Mountain Lao. The centre is known for its unique location, beautiful environment, friendly polices and strong fundamental education.


    The director of MIS Centre is Professor Shige Peng, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The director of the academic committee is Professor Lei Guo who is also an academician of the CAS. The centre will organize an academic committee and a working committee, consisting of both domestic and global experts, to decide on major operational affairs, overall development strategies and make dynamic adjustments to Centre’s educational layouts as well as research directions. Based on the advantages of both domestic and global experts, the Centre will set up several research teams in many areas including financial mathematics, control science, data science, information security, biological information, marine information, basic mathematics, etc. The Centre will also implement a chief-scientist-responsibility system in order to manage these teams. The chief scientist of each team should be internationally prominent in mathematics and related interdisciplinary fields. The chief scientist is also responsible for conducting cutting-edge researches, cultivating high-level talents and leading major academic innovation.


    The MIS Centre will take on new missions, create new academic atmosphere, and make new breakthroughs and innovations to promote the name of mathematics of Shandong University. With the efforts of all staff members and global experts, MIS Centre will strive and sail to a new glory.
