We believe that you have learned about the outbreak of pneumonia caused by new coronavirus (2019-nCoV). SDU attaches great importance to epidemic prevention and control and resolutely implements national instructions and requirements. The university has established task forces to formulate concrete schemes, strengthen overall planning, and take proper prevention and control measures in time. All work is being conducted in an orderly manner. Thank you for your contribution to the development of our university and thank you for your support to our work.

Keeping each of our international visitor safe and healthy is our high priority. We do hope that you can keep us informed of your health condition so that we can offer proper help as necessary.

Hereby we recommend the following practices:

I. Keep in touch.

Whether you have returned to your hometown or still stay in China, please inform your co-teacher of your college about your current location, physical condition and travel itinerary timely.

II. Follow official information release.

Visit the official website of Shandong Provincial Health Commission or follow “sdswsjkw” (the official WeChat account run by Shandong Provincial Health Commission) for the epidemic updates, prevention and control guide and other relevant information. You can also visit the university website to get further news of SDU. If you have fever or other suspected symptoms, notify your co-teacher in time and contact the local epidemic prevention and control agency. The 24-hour consultation hotline of Shandong Center for Disease Control and Prevention is: 0531—88738367 or 88737580.

III. Strengthen prevention and self-protection.

Keep good hygiene by washing hands often with soap or alcohol-based sanitizer. Drink plenty of water. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue or flexed elbow when coughing or sneezing. No spitting. Dispose of garbage and used face masks properly according to instructions. Air rooms properly. Clean houseware every day and sanitize them regularly. Avoid close contact with any wild animals or birds. Cook eggs and meat thoroughly. Avoid crowded places, gatherings, parties and other group activities. Wear face mask correctly when going out.

Special Reminder: stay away from the sources of infection; avoid close contact with patients who have fever or cough and avoid visiting them in hospital.

IV. Go to a designated hospital in time whenever necessary.

The major symptoms of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) include fever, fatigue and dry cough. Upper respiratory symptoms such as nasal obstruction or running nose are rarely seen. For some patients, the symptoms begin mildly, even without a fever. If you have respiratory symptoms such as fever or cough, please go to the fever clinic of the nearest hospital designated by Shandong Provincial Health Commission with a mask on.

V. Apply for foreigners’ work permit and extension of visa or residence permits in time.

Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province and Exit-Entry Administration Bureau will be in full service for foreigners’ work permit and extension of visa or residence permits to ensure foreigners' legitimate stay in China. If you need any help, please contact Department of International Affairs in advance. Email: wgzj@sdu.edu.cn.
